This past Saturday I made my way out to one of our local events back home in Phoenix. I haven’t shot here in quite a few months and personally, I think I went to the right one.
Since I’ve been gone, they thought up a new layout on our main track that they normally drive, but this time, they did it in reverse. The layout starts with initiating near a concrete barrier/tire wall that I think quite a few were uncomfortable with. It then was followed by a decently long sweeper that you had to make sure you had enough momentum going into so you could carry out the rest of the track. The layout was fast and a bit technical. There were quite a few drivers we talked to about it and it was about a half and half of those who liked it and those who didn’t like it. Some had said that it was too fast and some corners were too long to enjoy the track for lower horsepower cars. But there were also those who enjoyed it who had roughly 90hp. Personally, I think this layout was awesome.
Local events are always nice to be able to hangout with your friends that you probably got into drifting with or met when you were getting into it. You get to catch up and see how they’ve been or what their plans are for the future. Some of your friends might be doing ProAm that you haven’t been able to watch all season, so you also get to finally see how they’ve progressed throughout their season. For example, Nick Gross is doing Vegas Drift this year and man has he come a long ways. Him and Chris Soehren from Elite Automotive Finishes were throwing near flawless runs out all night long.
We started a discussion on our Facebook page about asking everyone what their thoughts were from the event.
“If there was one thing you’d like to see more of at the local events here, what would it be and why?! Walking around everyone seemed to of loved the new layout(reversed of course), hated it, or wished some things were a bit different other than the layout”
This also could be a good time to write what you’ve liked about the recent local events, not just pure criticism! If you scroll all the way to the bottom of this article, we would love it if you all could write your thoughts in the comments! We ask if you all could keep it civil. This isn’t a time to say, “these events completely suck”. Instead of saying just that, say what you would change or what you already like that is going on. Again, keep it civil!
