Super D Matsuri 2018

We are a bit behind getting this out, but it’s better late than never!

To start with- Super D Matsuri 2018 was INCREDIBLE. Being able to attend and be a part of the event was once again, an honor. What these guys are doing for the USA can hardly be put into words. This was the second Matsuri for Super D, and it just keeps getting better and better. People traveled from all over last Matsuri, but this time there were literally people from all over. Exciting Hero ( has a sick article introducing the teams and drivers who made the voyage to Apple Valley, California. Naoki Nakamura was once again flown to the USA, but with Two others! Miki Takagi and Mitsuyoshi Nishio were also flown out to join the chaos. We hope they had as much fun as we all did! The level of driving in this event, along with how amazing all of the cars looked, was on a different level.

After the event, there was a lot of speculation whether or not good driving was actually present. For starters, if you don’t go off track at Grange, you aren’t pushing yourself hard enough. However, the amount of good runs without flying off track far out weighed the amount of good runs that did fly off track. Not only were Super D’s guest drivers pushing their own limits, everyone else was too. Super D can honestly be compared to a skate sesh. You watch your buddy nail a sick entry and you’re eager to try it yourself! Even if you aren’t sure that you can do it, you’re still going to push yourself. Whether you fly off track or keep it on track, you go back to your pits with your peers and you’re all too hyped on pushing eachother to advance your driving. At the end of the day, everyone is insanely excited to keep driving together. Everyone is talking about what you should have done, or just really hyped that you did what you were trying to do. Maybe a random dude comes along and starts talking about how excited he was to see you or your friend do something cool! This is Super D- hanging out, good times, and pushing your limits. If articles, videos, and photos aren’t enough to convince you how great Matsuri is, you should head out to the next event.

We all were already excited that Super D Matsuri was a Two Day event this year, but we didn’t know they were going to run it through the entire night. Drifting started at around 9am Saturday and ended at 5pm Sunday with a few breaks in between. Super D isn’t a large staff and for them to make this happen was unreal. It was around 11pm Saturday when I decided I was going to just hangout and embrace what was going on, I overheard Julian talking about how they were going to manage the rest of the night flagging and he mentioned he would take over flagging through the night as long as he could go back, shower, and eat. Keep in mind, this dude hasn’t had hardly any sleep for a couple of months at least, preparing for the event, their own cars, and three other cars for the Guest Drivers. To me, that showed the amount of dedication this group has to make sure they are trying their hardest to make their events the best they can possibly be.

As I’m sure you guessed, hard driving didn’t end through the night and continuing into Sunday. If anything, Sunday the driving went a notch further as everyone’s car was either missing panels, people became more comfortable, or they decided they only had one more day to shred. Sunday was met with clouds, wind, and nice weather and the entire weekend couldn’t of been better. If you were to ask me, “What was your most memorable moment from Super D?”. I would seriously have to answer with seeing Jason Bostrom flying down the straight into initiation with Naoki repeatedly all weekend. I’m sure this was said often at Super D, but it’s beyond true. Those two were throwing their cars into initiation inches apart every run. It was mesmerizing watching it in person.

I suck at writing so I honestly can’t put it into words how amazing this event was. Super D Matsuri 2018 easily gained the top spot for the best events I’ve ever gone to. This is the second Super D Matsuri and the second one I’ve gone to. I can’t even imagine what the Third Matsuri will bring. Once again, we can’t thank Super D enough for letting us be a part of it and we thank them for all of their hard work putting on highly memorable events. Thank you for reading and our gallery is attached below!
